Am trying to think how many blazers I have ? To start with , my first coat was burgundy and then came the black, and white . For years, and for a person who did not come from a fashion background, and worked a 9-5 shift, I did not feel the need to add more blazers in my wardrobe, coz fashion wasn't a weekly thing, and it wasn't a challenge to wear blazers back then. We kept them for fairly conservative space like meetings, formal events , and there were better staples in life to fill our storage than the need to invest in blazers.
Until the late 19th century, women preferred to wear cape style coats . Mink blazers were the first out of the league that represented the wearer from luxury Clan.
Back then fashion still demanded that clothing to be worn as per occasion, and growing number of working women, needed blazers that could be worn to office, which particularly led to development of a few basic styles, that are relevant even today. For eg. the classic trench, the double breasted and the suit jacket etc.
After the World War II Haute Couture aimed at bringing revolutionary styles in blazers, and the coat's length followed the length of the dresses and skirts, hence they became really short (source wikipedia)
Today's women doesn't fail to experiment. Talk about online awareness, the ladies are drawn to thrilling collision of trends and the blazer has gone beyond the boundaries of corporate rooms and power suits.
