Indian Fusion Styles That You should Try

Thursday, 31 July 2014 / , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

After the India Couture week, rolled up, where my eyes could not wander beyond current trends, and how our Indian designers didn't leave variations behind in their creations, and gave us a lot to experiment and food to digest,  I picked up Inspirations, from where they left.
We are blending trends like never before, and there are transformations of style over fashion-Read Street Styles ! I have been drawn to wearing lots of neutrals, and whites, this summer season, and it was then my eyes fell on this Kurta dress by Fab India. I was in the trial room, wearing these same slip-ons, and felt that they could effortlessly help me create a concocted style, which I had so long in mind. Later after much of searching and hunting around the racks, I found this cotton midi skirt too, in the fabric that always set my monsoon mood and I was ready to deliver any indo-fusion "Mien" !
Stacking Jewelry Pieces is a great idea , especially if you are experimenting with Indian Jewels as they Scintillate a heavy duty fashion Armour . I used elements of Kundan, in this Maharani style 3-tiered necklace, and then added the beaded balls necklace to get to a modern version of Indian Wear staples.
The back had some elaborate Latkans, which not only brought my opulent fantasies to fruition, but pretty much made me stand out, amongst the great sea of Accessories !

Yellow midi Skirt

Thursday, 17 October 2013 / , , , , , , , , , , ,

I got a bit fashion provocative, when one day out of the blue, pointing towards a lady wearing a pretty yellow dress, Hubs expressed an endearing thought, (which definitely he would have repented later) -I think, this color would look great on u !  And with that , I quickly did a mental scan of my closet, n figured, well, I never had a perfect yellow dress or anything which can give a shocking yellow punch of color to my closet ! That day, and the day I laid my hands on this pretty yellow skirt( sarojini -mind u ), lot of things moved . I had a new mission ! I  browsed a lot of online sites, a gazillion times maybe, but could not get his approval on the kind of yellow he talked of that day ! Finally Asos came to my rescue and he approved of something there, which was still very close , but didn't have my size ! It became a morning ritual to refresh n see if they have restocked , but that never happened ! Not even in a month(can u believe that )
When I brought this skirt home, I felt like a victor, proudly flaunting my thrift, and bargaining skills . The joy of reasonable ways to get what we want- I totally understand that now !

Asos Oxblood Midi Dress

Tuesday, 6 August 2013 / , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I saw this dress on Asos last year, and immediately wanted to dip my toes into the vintage waters, with this dress giving a whole 40's vibe to the length ! The moment I tried it on, the first words coming out of my daughter' mouth were- MOM are u going to school ? And there I stood with the most Pokerish sort of expression on my face, with my soul cursing me for yet again giving into an impulsive buy !  Since Midi length was the only thing that looked current(at least on the runaway) I decided to hide it in the darkest corner of my closet, waiting for the right Inspiration or mood - to say it appropriately, and bring it out !
The first time I wore it was here- and it looked pretty decent with the layers, and very formal too ! The look was really growing on me, and I was able to demystify the midi trend at least . I decided to redo the whole look and bring out this Orphan dress(instead of getting rid of it ) and break certain myths we have for this kind of length !
I have broken down the cheat codes for you all too !!
  • Tuck that top In (incase of a skirt): Its more flattering when eyes dig your waistline till the hemline ! I chose the dress in two-tone contrast color, to get the same effect !
  • Layering is a good idea- The midi length looks neat when layered. Just make sure the layer(cotton/denim jackets for hotter months) hits above the waistline or just an inch or two above the hemline(trench/long coats for fall), either of which, really  depends on what season you are in .
  • Length: Thin or petite woman look great in lengths which hit just half an inch above the knee. If you are tall n petite, you can pull the longer ones too. The same holds good for curvy or pear shape women also !
Have you tried this trend too ? How do you carry off your midi's ? Comment Comment !!
