Indian Fashion Blog | Fusion Ethnic Outfit | Street Style Delhi

Thursday, 21 April 2016 / , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Street  !!! The character of any city is expressed through its Streets .They tell a tale . Every street has a name, while the numbered streets gets you going where you want, it's the name of the street, that must be paid attention to..hidden in it is the history, ethnicity, culture, food habits and even the entire mood of the city,
Street Style - What's the first thing that comes to your mind ?
Sidewalks, Food, hawkers, people on the roads, motivation of the people , noise , bustle, shopkeepers, tarot readers, Astrologers(Panditji), Banglewala , haphazardly assembled group of tables at the chaiwala, the girl in rag clothes , the homeless, graffiti on the walls .....accidentally or not, there is a lot of visual effects these streets lend to our subconscious.
While, our sophisticated avatar shops in air conditioned malls, but our inner child is always drawn to this cacophony of cluttered shops . One gives you ease of shopping , and the other offers a personal humane touch and luxury of rummaging through hundreds of things without the obligation of buying. In a local street, I guess, I am able to spend some time with my own self where my inner confusion is able to sync with the clutter of the street just like a river meeting the ocean.
Sometimes its good to be candid and leave the beaten track.
In between all the madness,  strolling in an outfit fit for a wedding, definitely catches the eye. Well that was not the purpose of my post. We took our love for the street to the next level, and thought about bringing a change of how we perceive dressing up in our everyday life. I think this outfit made everything symbolic. Change was quite literally in the air.
We tried to capture various characters  in this post. I was welcomed by the churiwala to get inside the shop, and take pictures. He moved the little halogen dangling from the top , obstructing the camera. Men were at work. The panditji thought that he is going to be the next sensation , and posed for the shutterbug as if he would be the face of front page of the newspaper. Palmistry was rendered free of cost.Chai was ordered. Slippers and bags were taken care of. The entire Indian hospitality was rolled over. We captured many expressions and faces of Panditji , but then I realized he would need a post of his own.
The gift shop was small, but the owner was warm. he offered me tea, and invited his whole family from his home to come and have a look at the" MEMSAHIB"
Soon his kids gathered around me but were soon outnumbered by all the beggars in the vicinity, who expected a huge tip.
If you love shopping but hate the streets , then I have a new website to tell you about that would make your browsing horses gallop. This outfit , ordered from Sareez.com was a made to fit piece.
From varied section of Indian pieces , to fusion wear, to multi designers, this one would definitely awaken the shopaholic in you .
From the fabric to the stitching everything is meticulously done.
A bit skeptical in the beginning I was not sure about the level of fit, and the fabric, since the price points are not very high, I was amazed at the extraordinary service and diligent delivery which was 2X times faster than my nearby masterjee .The colour was pure love, the embroidery is neat, and the style is different. The hint of Marsala with the spice of burgundy is what makes this get its own edge, from the league. The possibility to style this suit is endless. On one day I want to wear the jacket as it is, and on the other switch the Anarkali with something more slaying . A hoarder of everything versatile , I really doubt that any brick and mortar store would have lend me their sartorial talent, into creating something as flexible as this Anarkali.

"Ferozabad Express" By SABYASACHI At India Couture week-2014

Tuesday, 22 July 2014 / , , , , , ,

India Couture week opened up with a grand spectacle in an old world charm created by Indian Designer Sabyasachi .Magnificence took a center stage and we all waited  for Sabya to cast his magic. Infact I even went up and called him "Jadoogar" of Indian couture on twitter coz  there is something so traditional and transforming in his bridal wear which definitely lends an edge of its own kind .
It was a full house, and we were relegated to sit tight and packed ,that for a moment I felt like running . Though the seating were not at all strategically set-from the point of photography, but everything is acceptable when Its a Sabya's Show.
It was the whole set-up that got much of the talking. The lights were dim and we could make out a train compartment sort of setting when the music started to play . It was a first class coach of Ferozabad express with real passengers on-board. Sleeper coach saw some bunker beds,  with nicely done up interiors and wooden work in deep burgundy hue. Though at a point I felt the interiors were tuned in accord to the color palette of the collection . There was a lady in a Burkha and my eyes  were Just stuck on  to a huge 40' Orange  Birkin kept on the top birth where she was seated which apparently belonged to her.
Ferozabad is know for hand embroidery and  art, hence all the garments reflected the traditional and Indian touch . The color Palette saw some sophisticated European pastels making a move with Ivories and cream as the base. The canvas lehengas and Muslim motifs Parsi zardozi and Afghan Crewel work took center stage . For that extravagant feel, The Bandhgala Jackets with printed trousers were sewed in with 18 carat gold buttons. The Paschminas is a symbol of eternity, and it has formed a major part of our wardrobes . It was interesting to see how it could be modified as a stole and draped with a Khadi crystal embellished Nehru Jacket. There were a lot of things which caught some special interest, like the Hand embroidered and Zardozi coats, in striking colors, which made perfect sense with the Men Classic lucknow style full beard And the  boxy clutches for women which matched the embroidery of the outfits.

KarvaChauth/ Wedding Trousseau

Thursday, 24 October 2013 / , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I grew up watching my Mom, observe the rituals of Karva-Chauth, and I would have watched DDLJ ( 90's bollywood movie) umpteen times ,the fav part being the glitz and traditions of this festival !
For my international readers, Karva chauth is the Indian Version of Valentine's day,Of course complete with,a mandatory expensive gift (dare not lure the wifey with just flowers)
Ok, Jokes apart its a one day festival where married women, seek a fast from morning till night without eating or drinking even a drop of water, and  pray for the longevity and safety of their husbands (Annual Life Insurance policy !! ) .The fast is concluded after a peek-a-boo of the rising Moon, which is  symbolic of Love and Beauty in  Indian mythology and poetic verses.
For me , it's a festival of happiness and renewal of love. Most important, we get to dress up in the wedding finery. I truly enjoy  buying ethnic stuff, the pomp and splendor, the decorated streets/markets where you bump into long lost friends,  the chit chat sessions while the henna artists are busy applying intricate designs on your hands.
Modern day Karva -Chauth is romanticized ! It kindles romance and love . But I have an opinion.. I feel there is no harm if husbands fast along too ! After all its about love and respect, and if practiced mutually ,harbors greater commitment, bonding and reassurance for the growing up kids as well. Its good to bond with traditions, but  don't you feel we should apply modern day logic?? BTW all the above philosophy is more of a carrot for my husband, who fasts with me and I would love if he continues forever (as I would also require my Annual Life Insurance policy to stay in place!!). Its not sacrifice its love !! Thoughts anyone ?
Moving to the outfit, when we talk of a fancy festival, the outfit cannot be any lesser. I wore this beautiful Lehenga -Choli dress from Study By Janak , finished with beautiful weaving's of Dabka, svarovski and Zari, with a Sequin and gotta border designs. Velvet is going to be a huge trend this fall, and I didn't think twice in picking up this piece from their wedding collection. The colors seemed to be complimenting each other from the merger of red, and fuchsia envied by the contrast of green and purple ! And for all my  readers, who asked me if I ever wore traditional outfits too, well this your answer !!
